truthfully, Peterson, an intelligent guy, was an awful pianist - and what you are hearing isn't swing it's just velocity, an insane momentum that is more machine - like than human. Listen to Basie play piano, to Bud Powell, Duke Jordan, Mile LeDonne - that's swing, it varies, it has a sense of space, of changes. Peterson has just one setting, and it is vulgar.
